BLAZUSIAK/ WEBB: the revenge!
Wednesday, 3 December 2014

After a resounding Final in Tours (France) last February and the 5th consecutive crown for Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL - KTM), the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship reasserts itself this Saturday, December 6th in the Ergo Arena in Gdansk (Poland) for the first round of this enticing 2014-2015 season...

Indeed, for this opening round, the FIM has confided to the experienced Lodzki Klub Motorowy and the Polski Zwiazek Motorowy (PZM) the daunting task of organizing the first round of the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship. This Moto Club is now a regular organizer of the SuperEnduro as it hosts a round of the Championship for the fourth time.

A new Arena

But this year, Marek BRYGIDER (Chairman of LKM) wanted a change. So exit the city of Lodz and its white hot Atlas Arena and hello to Gdansk and its Ergo Arena! This very modern venue, with a capacity between 5100 and 15 000 seats, was opened in August 2010 and has already received many concerts such as those of Iron Maiden or Lady Gaga and many International dimensions sporting events as World Indoor Track and Field Championships (2014) or the World Male Volleyball Championship (2014). The Ergo Arena will also host the European Male Handball Championships in 2016.

Gdansk, the sixth biggest city of Poland, is located in the region of Pomerania in northern Poland. This dynamic city of about 450,000 inhabitants is located 340 kilometers north of Warsaw and just 160 kilometers west of Kaliningrad and Russia. Known in the history of the famous World Wars as one of many strategic centers for which Germany and the USSR tore, Gdansk is now considered as the largest city port in the country and is considered as the world capital of the amber. Gdansk is also the birthplace of a certain Lech Walesa, simple unionist who became a few years later President of Poland after being, with his union "Solidarnosc", the trigger of what will be the fall of the Berlin Wall and communism...

With live TV coverage on RedBull.TV, a great first in the history of SEWC, and riders over-motivated in both categories, it's in an Ergo Arena boiling that the GP of Poland will ring the opening night of the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship!

The US Armada!

The stars of the discipline are of course eager to do battle for the first date that already has the smells of powder and revenge! The five-time World Champion Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL - KTM) will of course act as the big favorite but he will have to watch to Cody Webb (USA - KTM) who swiped him (the last 22/11) the Endurocross title in the USA, after five years of domination! Taylor ROBERT (USA - KTM) will also be one of the great protagonists of the season and his sense of the show should enjoy the European public. After some hesitation, David KNIGHT (GB - KTM) will indeed be present at the Ergo Arena with the sole objective of victory like last year in Lodz! He will be accompanied by his compatriots Jonny WALKER (KTM), Danny MCCANNEY (HVA) and Paul BOLTON (KTM)... Surprise of last season, the Spaniard Dani GIBERT (Gas Gas) will be also a serious contender for the podium alongside Alfredo GOMEZ (E - HVA), fourth last year, who confirmed his many improvements... First US rider to have put his crampons on the SEWC, Kyle REDMOND (Beta) returns to the championship for the second year in a row with the intention of fighting for the top places. He is joined in Beta by the boiling 2014 Junior World Champion Giacomo REDONDI (I). Finally, we can’t forget the young wolves as Eloi SALSENCH (E - Gas Gas), Aurélien ADDESSO (F - Kawasaki) and Mario ROMAN (ESP - KTM) and the experienced as Xavi LEON (E - HVA), Marcus KEHR (D - Sherco) and Edward HUBNER (D - KTM)... But with only six riders admitted in the main event the qualification seems already to be under pressure! Note the absence of Mathias BELLINO (F - HVA) who is still in convalescence after his LCA injury last June…

Who will succeed to REDONDI?

In the Junior category, spectators should enjoy three breathtaking heats where the main actors should be named Andreas LINUSSON (S - KTM), Owain HUMPHREYS (GB - HVA) and Gethin HUMPHREYS (GB - HVA)... These three riders, who have already shown their talent last season, will be seriously worried by newcomer and 2014 Endurocross Junior Champion Ty TREMAINE (USA - KTM)! For their part, Jack ROWLAND (GB - Sherco), Tim APOLLE (D - HVA), Oskar KACZMARCZYK (PL - KTM), Manuel LETTENBICHLER (D - KTM), son of the official KTM, Joshua GOTTS (GB – TM) and Jack EDMONDSON (GB - KTM), son of Paul EDMONDSON, will look to be the surprises of the night among the pack of young prospects.

After a 2013-2014 season that saw David KNIGHT, Jonny WALKER and Alfredo GOMEZ threatening Taddy BLAZUSIAK a bit more. The Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship 2014-2015 seems more open than ever and the king BLAZUSIAK ever seemed much at risk with this wave coming from the USA! First answers on Saturday, December 6th in the Ergo Arena in Gdansk (Poland) from 15.00 where the stars of the SEWC give you appointment for suspense, breathless races and an even bigger show... that you can also follow on Red Bull.TV!

Blazusiak dominates opening round of 2015 Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship.
Saturday, 6 December 2014

Wow! What a night. If ever there was proof that SuperEnduro delivers some of the most exciting off-road motorcycle racing there is, the first round of the 2015 Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro series was it. With home favourite Taddy BLAZUSIAK riding at his absolute best, accidents and incidents aplenty filled each of the three Prestige class finals. BLAZUSIAK proved unbeatable and secured three wins to take the night’s overall win ahead of David KNIGHT and Cody WEBB. In the Junior class the enthusiastic Polish crowd witnessed the emergence of a definite star of the future – US racer Ty TREMAINE. Dejected and downbeat 12 months ago having surprising failed to win the opening round of the 2014 SuperEnduro series, Taddy BLAZUSIAK showed everyone who was boss tonight inside the Ergo Arena. Clearly motivated to start the championship in the right way, the five-time SuperEnduro title winner’s night ended perfectly but started in absolutely the worst way.

Crashing with team-mate Jonny WALKER in the first corner of the opening final, Taddy put on what will be remembered as one of the all-time best come-from-behind rides to claim an amazing win. Spain’s Alfredo GOMEZ made the most of the chaos in the first turn, leading during the early laps before being passed by Cody WEBB. WEBB, who moved passed GOMEZ when the Husqvarna rider tangled with a lapped rider, looked like he had the race won. But in losing drive as he took off over a log jump he crashed heavily, throwing away his lead. By this time Taddy had worked his way in front of David KNIGHT for second and inherited the lead with just one lap to go. Claiming a well-deserved win Taddy finished ahead of KNIGHT and a disappointed WEBB.

The second Prestige final saw Spain’s Dani GIBERT claim the holeshot from the reversed order start. It was an all-Spanish battle for the lead early on as Mario ROMAN took over the #1 position for a couple of laps. But then it was Taddy, who’d somehow managed to work his way to the front with amazing ease, who took over the lead. He was never headed. Opening up a comfortable advantage he held position and secured a second race win. David KNIGHT delivered a second strong performance to take the runner-up position with GIBERT holding on for third.

Taddy BLAZUSIAK was totally flying in front of his home crowd

Race three saw a BLAZUSIAK start-to-finish race win, a result that brought his night to a perfect close. Opening up a commanding lead at the front of the race Taddy once again worked his way through lapped riders with ease to finish ahead of Jonny WALKER, who finally showed the form that took him to the Akrapovic SuperPole win. KNIGHT finished third, but the night belonged to Taddy. “It’s been the perfect start to the championship,” confirmed a delighted BLAZUSIAK from the podium. “To get three wins is just amazing, it’s given a great championship lead. It’s special to win here in Poland, and this result makes up for last year’s disappointments. I was taking risks, but somehow staying in control. It’s been an amazing night.”

Amazingly Taddy wasn’t alone in claiming three race wins. SuperEnduro newcomer Ty TREMAINE showed that he’s unquestionably a star of the future by topping all of the night’s Junior class finals. Pushed hard by Sweden’s Andreas LINUSSON in race one, Ty finished more than 30 seconds ahead of Manuel LETTENBICHLER in race two and then 21 seconds up on LINUSSON in the third and final race.

The 2015 Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship moves onto the Erdgas Arena in Riesa, Germany on January 3.

Great start of season for Ty TREMAINE, Andreas LINUSSON finishes 2nd and Jack ROWLAND 3rd
